10/5/2008In FlightIn Flight: You will leave the USA for your flight to Beijing. The adventure begins!
10/6/2008BeijingBeijing: You will arrive in Beijing, where you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel.
10/7/2008BeijingBeijing: Tour of a Chinese Hutong. This tour begins with a rickshaw ride through the old neighborhood, then a short walking tour into the narrow streets of the Hutong. You will be able to visit the home of a family who lives there; feel free to ask any questions. This is the traditional housing in old Beijing that was generally four small houses surrounding a court area. The Hutong has been home to both the poor and the rich. These quaint dwellings are disappearing in the continual modernization of China. (If you have a group of 10 or more we can arrange for you to have lunch prepared by a local family in the Hutong). This tour ends with lunch. Then we will take you to experience the Temple of Heaven, which is the site where the emperor would go to pray and commune with the gods. This is a magnificent temple that is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Then you will be taken to the Bei Hai Park, where Beijingers go to relax. You can stroll along the lake, seeing the young lovers holding hands, older people playing Mah Jong or Chinese Chess and possibly even a group of people gathered in one of the gazebos singing and playing traditional Chinese folk songs. You can also visit the Nine Dragon Wall and the Tibetan giant White Stuppa. If you like you can continue in this area on your own and make your way back to your hotel later. B, L, D
Dinner: the World-famous Qian Jude Beijing Duck Restaurant
10/8/2008BeijingBeijing: Today you will be taken to Tiananmen Square, to see this largest of town squares, surrounded by many of the most important Chinese buildings. Next you will be taken to the Forbidden City. In addition to seeing the buildings and grounds of the Emperor's palace, you will also see the Emperor's clock collection and the Qing Dynasty Jewelry, Robes and Relics collection (which Westerners rarely see). Then in the afternoon your guide will drop you off at the Modern Museum of Art. The rest of the time you are free to explore this fascinating museum. You can take a taxi back to your hotel when you are ready. B, L
10/9/2008BeijingBeijing: This morning you will check out and we will take you to visit the art gallery area called Factory 798. Then we will take you to the luxury villas at the Commune by the Great Wall. Once you are checked in, your time will be free. You will be in a beautiful villa at the foothills of the Great Wall. In addition to being able to see the Great Wall at sunset and the following sunrise, you can enjoy your beautiful rooms, the villa and the resort grounds. The hotel staff provides a shuttle van which can take you anywhere on the grounds including an ideal point from which to walk up on the Great Wall of China in a place where there are no general tourists. You can walk up the hill there and walk along the Wall, take some wonderful photos. B, L
10/10/2008BeijingBeijing: Free day. The day is free to enjoy your luxury villa at your leisure.
10/11/2008Xi'anBeijing-Xi'an: You will continue your free time at the Commune. In the afternoon you will check out and you will be taken on a tour of the Sacred Way (in the Ming Tombs area). Then we will take you to a grocery store where you can buy some food, drinks and snacks for your train ride. They do have a kitchen car on the train however, this will allow you to make your own options just in case you do not care for the selections on the train menu. Afterwards you will be taken to the train station for your 12-hour train to Xi'an. You have chosen the upgrade of the Soft Sleeper Deluxe car (2 berths to a room and a private bathroom). B
10/12/2008Xi'anXi'an: You arrive in Xi'an in the morning. There your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Once you are settled you will be given h a tour of the city, including the old city wall (which 4 chariots could ride abreast) and the , with its Drum Tower and Bell Tower. After lunch we will take you to the World-Class Shaanxi Provincial Museum (once again not typically on Western tours), which chronologically features the dynasties of China in order through artifacts, brassware and other cultural displays. Evening Option: See the lovely water show at the Wild Goose Pagoda (this is a fairly spectacular water show).
10/13/2008Xi'anXi'an: The morning is free for you to explore on your own. In the afternoon we will take you to the Great Mosque and the Muslim Quarter. This is a delightful area to explore and you have several interesting shops, restaurants and buildings.
Dinner: The famous De Fang Chang Dim Sum Restaurant
10/14/2008GuilinXi'an-Guilin: Today you will visit what has been called the 8th Wonder of the World the Terra Cotta Soldiers Museum. Oftentimes, one of the farmers who discovered the site is actually there. The Terra Cotta Soldiers Museum itself, has 3 major 'pits' where various types of figurines were uncovered. No two soldiers look exactly alike. The museum also has a 360-degree theatre which shows a dramatized history of how and why the Terra Cotta soldiers were created. You will also visit the Terra Cotta Soldiers Replica Factory. You can actually purchase a genuine looking Terra Cotta Replica constructed at a variety of sizes including full size. This unique factory and store also offers many other quality products including silk rugs, jewelry, the famous Xi'zan 3-color pottery and some beautiful furniture with laminated jade artwork. Then you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin. When you arrive you will be transferred to your hotel.
10/15/2008GuilinGuilin: This morningyouwill take a brief city tour, including Fubo Hill and Elephant Trunk Hill Park. Then you will visit to the beautiful Reed Flute Caves.
Late afternoon option: The world famous Guilin Foot Massage!
Evening option: The Minorities Concerts- This is a delightful display of the costumes, dances, acrobatics and other entertainments from many of the Chinese minorities.
10/16/2008GuilinGuilin: Today we will take you on a day trip to Longshen. We will drive you outside of town to the Dragon Ridge Terraced Fields, where you will see some beautiful terraced farms. There are some breath-taking vistas and views there. You can also meet some Chinese minorities (especially the Zhuang and the Yao people) in their villages. There are some interesting forested areas and unusual stone formations. B, L, D
10/17/2008YangshuoGuilin-Yangshuo: You will go on the Li Jiang River Cruise. This is one of the most beautiful areas in the whole world; showing the magnificent limestone mountains rising along the riverbanks. You can enjoy the mountains shrouded in clouds and catching a glimpse of the people who live along the riverbanks. Cormorant fishermen still use these unusual birds to catch their daily fish. As the cruise ends, you will disembark in Yangshuo, a quaint village with a very nice street market. Most tours only spend an hour in this village and then return to Guilin. But this is in the midst of the beautiful fantasy shaped mountains. The beautiful mountains are close by and you can go into the countryside to see the beautiful vistas. You can take a bicycle ride or drive outside the city to see some of the most beautiful sites you will ever see, or if you prefer you can be driven. Then you will spend the night in this beautiful area. B, L
EVENING OPTION: The amazing new multi-media presentation with hundreds of performers, lights, effects (all very beautifully and professionally coordinated by a professional Chinese director) utilizing the amazing fantasy-shaped mountains as a backdrop. This is an amazing show.

10/19/2008ShanghaiYangshuo-Shanghai: You will take a drive through the Chinese countryside, seeing beautiful, rural areas of this beautiful country. Then you will continue onto the Guilin airport for your mid-day flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After you have had a chance to rest and refresh we will take you to Nanjing Street. The rest of your time is free. (you can explore the Bund and the Pudong Area). B, L

10/20/2008ShanghaiShanghai: Your guide will transfer you to your hotel. Then you will tour the Yu Yuan Gardens. This beautiful garden area is a picture of Chinese serenity. As you exit the Gardens area, you will be in one of the main shopping centers of Shanghai. Shanghai is so westernized that this section is called, 'Chinatown.' We will give you some time to browse and look at the many types of shops that are there. You will meet at a designated spot to have lunch in the area. Then you will visit the world-class Shanghai Museum. This museum features many fine exhibits including the ancient coin collection, the Chinese furniture, art and especially the Ethnic Minorities exhibit. B, L
10/21/2008SuzhouShanghai-Suzhou: Today you will be driven to Suzhou where you will visit thebeautiful Humble Administrator's Garden. This is a classic beautiful large Chinese Garden. Then you will be taken to the much smaller, yet still gorgeous Master of the Net garden. You will also visit the incredible Embroidery Institute, where Chinese masters do with thread what our Western masters did with oil paint. We will also visit the Silk Factory. B, L
10/22/2008ShanghaiSuzhou-Shanghai: Today we will take you to the neighboring water town of Tongli. This is a spectacularly beautiful city with classic Chinese bridges, canals, etc. which is reminiscent of China hundreds of years ago. You will then be transferred back to Shanghai. B
