Mention code 6067634 | | Intrepid Travel | | | | Day | Destination | Description | | Days 1-2 | Ubud | Bali's largest Hindu town is also its artistic and cultural heart. There is plenty of free time to browse the many craft shops, meet monkeys in their forest sanctuary or, for the more adventurous, go white water rafting. Enjoy a cultural performance. | | Day 3 | Sideman | Take to the backstreets of Ubud and beyond by bicycle, with children waving as you breeze by. Stop and admire some of the intricately carved temples along the way. Afterwards, head to the hills and the peaceful, scenic village of Sideman, set against the backdrop of Bali's highest peak, Mt Agung. This friendly village is a great place to chill out and meet the locals. | | Day 4 | Mt Batur | Learn the art of songket-weaving at a local workshop before enjoying a traditional 'bungkus' (take-away) lunch. Trek into the mountains afterwards, for wonderful views of Bali's volcanic landscape and maybe also a refreshing dip in the river. Stay in simple lodgings in the village of Kedisan. | | Days 5-7 | Lovina | Rise early and venture out into the cool, eerie darkness for the final leg of the climb. From the summit of Mt Batur, take in the spectacular sunrise and perhaps have eggs sunny-side-up for breakfast, cooked over the mountain's sulphuric vents. For a sea-change, head down to the coast for a day of snorkelling or scuba amongst some of Bali's most impressive reefs. | | Days 8-9 | Ubud | Admire one of Bali's most beautiful temples, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, situated in the centre of a glassy lake, before travelling back to Ubud. Pick up some last-minute souvenirs or enjoy a final Balinese banquet before bidding the island goodbye. |
